to pastoring St. Mark’s, Cory directs the Institute for Nonprofit Excellence of
the Louisiana Association of Nonprofit Organizations. In that role he
strengthens nonprofits to strengthen the state. His work includes board
development, fund development planning, and strategic planning.
He serves as
President-Elect of the Greater New Orleans Chapter of the Association of
Fundraising Professionals; Chair of the Commission on Stewardship of the
Environment of the Louisiana Interchurch Conference; and Vice-President of
Christian Renewal New Orleans, a group that networks local churches and
He and his
wife, Melissa, have been married for 17 years. They have two daughters –
Beatrix, age 12, and Ella, age 8.
Sparks holds an A.B. from Columbia University; an M.Div. from Southern
Methodist University; and a Doctorate in American History from Louisiana State
University. During seminary he was a Ministry Fellow of the Fund for
Theological Education (now the Fund for Theological Exploration).
